Kellum-Ann's Finding Ad

The Little Girl that is Labeled #31 in "The Nanfang Farmer's Daily" newspaper is our Kellum-Ann. We are so excited that we were able to locate this ad. We now have an infant picture of her. We also have the actual newspaper (not that we can read it!) This ad was run in the paper on January 8, 2005. Just for your information, there were 88 precious babies in this paper, all of which were abandonded and needing a home. I pray daily for the mother of our Sui Chun Yu... that she will have peace about her little girl's future and if I could tell her one thing... I would thank her for leaving Kellum-Ann on the steps of a middle school so that she would be easily found. Through this woman's great despair and love... we were given a precious gift.

The area outlined in RED is Guangdong Province and the area in YELLOW is the city of Suixi. Kellum-Ann's orphange is in Suixi. We will be staying in Guangzhou which is just north of Hong Kong and in the Guangdong Province.

Kellum-Ann's Update

This is a picture of Nathan with the Care Package we sent to Kellum-Ann. It has toys, candy, cameras, photo albums and etc. for her ... and of course a blanket!

Here are a few interesting facts about Kellum-Ann from her report.

  • Sui Chun Yu (Kellum-Ann) was found on October 3, 2004.
  • She weighed 7 and a half pounds and was 19 in long.
  • Chun means Spring and Yu means Jade
  • She was diagnosed as a healthy baby when she was found.
  • At age 9-10 months, Kellum-Ann would stand by holding the bedrail. She liked to watch the dancing programs on T.V.
  • At 6-7 months, she danced around when she was happy and liked shout "yee yaa"
  • She could mimck words at age 8-10 months
  • She guards her things very well. If you are lucky, she will be willing to give things to you!

Great News... I have made contact with a gentleman who has found Kellum-Ann's finding ad. This ad was published a couple of weeks after she was found in China. It has her picture and descriptions of her and what she was wearing! He has the actual newspaper ad. Of course, I have made arrangements to purchase this. It will one more item that will connect Kellum-Ann to her past. I would also love to have an infant picture of her!

Thanks for keeping up with pur journey... They are telling us we will travel in late February!

Suixi Social Welfare Institution

This has been Kellum-Ann's home for 15 months. From what we know so far, we feel that she has been well taken care of! She is on track with her weight and height and is already walking and doing most of the "things" that her age does. We feel very blessed!
We are waiting on her translations now. I am very curious to know what "Chun Yu" means. Thank you for all of the kind words and prayers... keep checking in!

This is the Suixi Social Welfare Insitute in Suixi, China. It is in Guangdong Province about 6 hours West of Guangzhou in Southern China.

Meet Sui Chun Yu "Our Kellum-Ann"

On Wednesday, January 4th we received our referral and finally got to see our daughter's picture. We think that she is the most beautiful baby in all of China! God did a great job! We know that this is the child He wanted us to have, regardless of what she looks or where she comes from!
Here are a few things about her, we will have more info in a few days, it is being translated at the moment!
  • Birthday 10-2-2004
  • Deep sleeper
  • Sits alone
  • Stands holding to something (as you can see)
  • Crawls
  • Laughs aloud
  • Imitates sounds
  • Active
  • Restless
  • The Quiet Box was NOT checked... should that tell me something
  • Has a ready smile
  • Loves music (that is a good thing b/c of the Studio)
  • As of September she had 4 teeth
  • and more but I won't bore you

It looks like we will travel the first of March. We are now waiting for our travel approval and updated pictures and info (like her sizes and so forth) from Lily in China. Pray for a quick turn around on our travel approval! Keep checking in... I will post more pictures later!

We Are On Stand-By!

Finally... our referral was mailed from China on Thursday, December 29th. We are expecting it today, Tuesday the 3rd, to arrive at Lifeline. If it doesn't make it today, we will go to Birmingham on Wednesday to get our first look at Kellum-Ann! Boy, have these last few days been hard! It is almost torture. We do know that Kellum-Ann is from Guangdong Province. This is in Southern China. This means that we will stay at the "White Swan" Hotel for the entire trip, which is a HUGE blessing! This means less flying all over China, staying in a Five Star Hotel for almost two weeks, American restaurants and the PEARL MARKETS!!!
Check in tomorrow for a picture of Kellum-Ann...hopefully!
